SMILING FROM EAR TO PIER
When Samantha and Martin first visited Ardbeg last year, they had only intended to stop for a quick lunch before hiking up Beinn Bheigeir. But, falling in love with Ardbeg, they never made it that far. Instead, they spent the day enjoying drams with our team and exploring the Distillery.
Fast forward to early 2024 and Samantha sent me an email, enquiring as to whether we could help her and her fiancé realise their dream of hosting their wedding ceremony at the Ardbeg pier, with an intimate group of their nearest and dearest. Challenge accepted!
And so, last month we shared in an incredible day with a wonderful couple. Here’s what they had to say.
“We arrived at Ardbeg for our ceremony to the well wishes of other distillery visitors as you walked through the courtyard in the sunshine. One American tourist was so pleased to see the groomsmen in kilts he had to get a photo of the best man as we headed down to the pier, drams in hand the wedding.
When we arrived at the pier Jackie had arranged for a beautiful flower arrangement and we were met by the local registrar Gemma Cameron. We tied the knot (literally, in a knot tying ceremony) surrounded by the sea, a gentle breeze and in brilliant sunlight.
Then came out the 19 year old Ardbeg and some delicious canapés the distillery had organised for us, including fresh local crab.
After a few family photos we headed off with our photographer to take some photos in the still house and warehouses, even visiting a 2024 cask.
We were picked up by Harold & Alex from Islay Sea Adventures from the Ardbeg pier and headed out for a few hours on one of their boats to explore the local islands, sheltered bays and spot some wildlife, including seals and impressive stags. More canapés were enjoyed, including lobster, crab and other local produce, alongside champagne and a few more whiskies."
Our warmest congratulations to you both, Mr & Mrs O’Neill, and we look forward to celebrating many anniversaries with you in future.
