Remember the year 2000? A time of frenzy and panic surrounding the millennium bug. People everywhere going crazy predicting computerised chaos, digital meltdown and an end to everything.

For Ardbeg, the year 2000 was truly a momentous year. With the renovation of the Ardbeg Distillery in place, Dr. Bill Lumsden and the whisky creation team worked their magic on this serendipitous rare stock.

Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K is a series of limited releases from the year 2000. Combining old and new, it merges modern, innovative whisky techniques whilst using the old Ardbeg stills.

Vintage_Y2K 24 Years Old is Dr. Bill’s tribute to the Committee’s 25th Anniversary, doing something that Ardbeg has never done before: he finishes a batch of the rediscovered millennium spirit in hand-selected Amontillado sherry casks, which is his favourite sherry of all time. By marrying the liquid with classic Ardbeg, the result is A vintage smoky Ardbeg infused with powerful new flavours – creamy toffee, antique leather and almond nuts.

No two Ardbeg are ever alike, the liquids from Vintage_Y2K is truly a smoky anomaly, a tale that will never come close to being replicated.

Ardbeg Y2K 24 years old is the second release of this serendipitous rare stock.

Pungent, deep, aromatic and spicy, with beautiful notes of creamy toffee, flowering blackcurrants, creosote, coal tar soap, antique leather and almond nuts, with a splash of water, hints of charcoal, graphite and damp moss emerge, along with a distinct sooty note.
Astonishingly powerful and spicy on the palate, with a burst of deep intense, smoky flavours – coal tar mingles with woodsmoke, while antiseptic lozenges meet bonfire embers. The Amontillado sherry casks are present, albeit in the background, with subtle notes of toffee, leather, cinnamon and clove.
Long and lingering aftertaste, there are hints of menthol, eucalyptus, linseed oil and charcoal.
