FEIS ILE AT ARDBEG – NEVER A HUMDRUM AFFAIR

27th May – 1st June 2019

On Islay, our passion for festivity is the very lifeblood of our famous island spirit.  We’ll find any excuse for a good old rumbustious get-together.
And this year for Feis Ile, we’re adding a dash of carnival colour to our customary celebrations, with a truly thrilling Caribbean twist to the week.

ARDBEG DAY – IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RUMBUSTIOUS REVELRY
Saturday 1st June 2019
10am – 5.30pm

In an Islay time gone by, on the last day of the Feis Ile Festival, locals transformed everything from tractors to wheelbarrows into magnificent floats. If it had wheels, they decorated it.
These vibrant mobile gardens, adorned with bright flowers and fabrics, were a sight to behold. Starting at the pier in Port Ellen, the procession rolled by the crowds at Ardbeg, before honking and tooting its way back to be judged. This was a typically Islay cavalcade of colour.
It’s often said that these gatherings first originated to ward off bad spirits. But this Ardbeg Day, there will only be good spirits, as though the processions are lost to the mists of time, the noise of drumbeats and maracas will fill the corners of the Distillery while Ardbeg lovers gather for a spectacle they won’t soon forget.
(No bookings are taken for Ardbeg Day)
At 10am it’s time to join the festivities, where a fruit cocktail of peachy goodness awaits. We’ll have tours, tastings, games, music and food available all day, including:

THE BIG ARDBEG PROCESSION

12.00pm
What makes Ardbeg keep a float? A float of course. At noon we’ll find out which of our magnificent floats is the top banana. Mickey and his attendants will cherry pick the best dressed float – just like they used to.

GO BANANAS TOURS

(every half hour from 10.30am – 3.30pm)
There will be no slipping up on tour with our fruity guides. Use all your senses to peel away the layers of fruitiness in every glass of Ardbeg. Apples and pears, peaches and cream – enjoy a great, colourful BIG tour with our fun-filled guides.

HEAD(S)ING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Our manager, Mickey, has seen some changes at Ardbeg. With the imminent expansion of the Distillery Mickey heads up a tasting and chooses some of his very favourite Ardbeg bottlings to share with you. There has been a colourful procession of Ardbeg expressions over the years and with his right hand (warehouse)men he will wax lyrical about the drams they love and has loved.
