FÈIS ÌLE AT ARDBEG – ROCK UP - 27TH MAY to 4TH JUNE 2022

ARDBEG (GREEN) DAY

Saturday 4th June 2022   10am – 5.30pm
‘It’s something unpredictable but in the end it’s right. We hope you have the time of your life.’

On Saturday 4th June 2022 Ardbeggians will finally be given the OK to ROCK up on Islay for our first physical Ardbeg Day since 2019.

In celebration of this year’s palate PUNKturing Limited edition we’re throwing a bash here at the Distillery. Dig out your denim and secure your safety pins, this Ardbeg Day is set to make your hair stand on end. WE LIKE TO PLAY OUR OWN TUNE HERE AT ARDBEG.

Entry £5pp on the door (cash only, under 18’s free)
Entry includes tasting glass, dram token and badge

It’s a little-known fact that way back when, in the late 1970s, Islay was a hotbed of anti-establishmentarianism. So much so, that the island’s main port, Port Ellen, earned the nickname ‘PUNK ELLEN’. There was even a Punk Posse. At the height of their notoriety, the gang’s number reached as many as three! Led by local hotelier’s daughter, Polly the Punk, tourists would come from as far as Portnahaven and Port Askaig to catch a glimpse of a mohawk, or, if they were lucky, snap a polaroid with them.

While times have changed, the devil may care attitude of the Punk Ellen Punks isn’t dead, it lives on in ARDCORE and it will live on at the Distillery on Saturday 4th June.

At 10am it’s time to start the festivities, where a rocking time awaits you!  We’ll have tours, tastings, games, music and food available all day, including:

THE DRAMMED ON TOURS

FREE TOURS - Available from 10.30am throughout the day (tours will leave every time there’s enough of a posse waiting!)
It’s all about the attitude to distilling - Punk meets Production! Take some malted barley, water and yeast and what do you get?

The spirit of Ardbeg.
Mohawks at mashing, zips and enzymes, tartan and timings, attitudes and attenuation.
Join us for a great tour of the distillery. Short and snappy.

COLIN GORDON, DISTILLERY MANAGER

Making whisky is a serious business. There is nothing more serious than taking the helm of a distillery that is over 200 years old. It’s time for you all to meet Colin, the 21st manager of Ardbeg Distillery. His tenure has been short (so far) but his impact tall.

AND

DR BILL LUMSDEN, DIRECTOR OF DISTILLING, WHISKY CREATION AND WHISKY STOCKS

An accomplished scientist sometimes called the ‘Willy Wonka of the whisky world’. Bill and the Whisky Creation team have been responsible for all the Festival and Committee bottlings we have enjoyed over the years. He loves whisky, he loves clothes and on his FIRST Ardbeg Day on Islay, Bill will be dressing to the nines and delivering a tasting to remember!

(Tastings from £30, no booking taken in advance)

IAIN SPINK GETS HIS SMOKIES ON….

You cannot and will not forgive yourself if you don’t try an Arbroath Smokie.

Iain is an original punk – he is looking out his old record collection, his tartan skinnies and he’ll be zipping around his smokin’ butts preparing the most delish plates of fish. Queues may be expected so make sure you procure a wee dram for the wait!

WHITE WALL GRAFFITI

Join Shona Hardie, renowned graffiti artist, who will be turning over the main wall of the visitor centre to Committee Members. It’s time to bring out your inner artist and eXpress yourself.

BUT IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT ARDBEG DAY, WE’VE ALSO GOT LOADS GOING ON THROUGH THE WEEK TOO…

We’ll be open every day of the Festival, from 27th May – 4th June

We’re taking bookings for our special Feis Ile tours and events from 11am (UK time) on Sunday 8th May - call us on either + 44 (0) 1496 300201 or +44 (0) 1496 300208

(Please don’t call any other number as we won’t be able to take your booking, apologies.  We’re also sorry but as we take your payment card details during the call, we can’t accept bookings over email or voicemail for these special Feis Ile events.  Lines will be busy at first, but we’ll get to you as soon as we can!)

Colin Gordon, newly(ish) appointed distillery manager and ex member of grunge band Snail Bait, lets rip in the warehouse with his own posse. Visit warehouses 3, 10, 10X and 11 for an insight into cask selection, maturation and general warehouse chit chat. There may be a few drams along the way too. A fusion of Rock ‘n’ Rolling and Barrel Rolling.

SEAPUNK SAILINGS

TIME:    9.30am OR 11am
DAYS:   Tuesday 31st May and Wednesday 1st June (24 places per sailing)
£60 per person / lasts around 1.5 hours
There are boat trips… and there are Ardbeg boat trips. Ever seen a mermaid?  Ever visited Black Bay? There is nothing more liberating that getting out on the water, salt on your lips, gentle breeze, or howling gale in your hair and an Ardbeg in your glass.
Gus and his skippers are on hand to make memories.

BBYOBAATBBQ

TIME:      7pm – 11pm
DAY:      Thursday 2nd June (120 places)

£50 per person
This is just sticking lots of acronyms together to get one BIG one, but more importantly at a time when we are indeed all reconnecting this will be a BRING BACK YOUR OWN BOTTLE AND ARDBEG T-SHIRT BARBECUE. Out in the Ardbeg courtyard, near the Ardbeg roundel, there’s something smoking! Delicious grub, a (dis) orderly queue and chance to chat about the bottles you’ve saved for this occasion.
Informal, laid back with a bit of attitude.
In attendance will be our local fashion designer, not Vivienne Westwood, but Siobhan Mackenzie, and she is ready to PUNK up your Ardbeg t-shirts, to adorn your denims, fashion your fishnets or jazz up your jacket (leather, of course!). So have a dram and get glam.

IF THAT’S NOT ENOUGH THEN, OF COURSE, WE’LL HAVE SOME OF OUR REGULAR SUMMER SCHEDULE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVAL WEEK AS WELL

We’ll be open every day of the Festival, from 27th May – 4th June
