We are delighted to recommend this fascinating book on the history and people of Islay. It’s the next best thing to dip your nose into other than a glass of Ardbeg.

Product Description

Islay: the Land of the Lordship is an independent book about Islay published in October 2008. Tracing life on Islay from the first residents to the present day, it describes the pivotal role this little island has played in Scottish history.

The author, Dr David Caldwell, is Keeper of Scotland & Europe in the National Museums of Scotland. In the 1990s he directed excavations at Finlaggan on Islay, the centre of the Lordship of the Isles. So he is uniquely qualified to bring this fascinating story alive for visitors and locals alike.
