By car

The drive to the port at Kennacraig takes you through some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery. It should take approximately 2 hours from Glasgow (not counting stops to look at the views).

Once on Islay, it's easy to find Ardbeg. You can pick up a road map when you arrive, or just follow your nose... From Port Ellen, head east along the most famous road in the history of single malt whisky, meandering past Laphroaig and Lagavulin, until you reach Ardbeg's rocky cove with the distillery nestling at the water's edge. You have arrived!

By ferry

Hop on a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry at Kennacraig and 2 hours later you will arrive at either Port Ellen (at the southern tip of the island) or Port Askaig (on the eastern coast). Timetables are available from the Kennacraig terminal (01880 730253), Port Ellen (01496 302209) or Caledonian MacBrayne (01475 650100 and calmac.co.uk).

Return prices start at £12.85 for a foot passenger and £69 for a car.

Coach services operate from Glasgow to Kennacraig - contact Citylink Coaches on 0870 550 5050.

By plane

Two 25-minute flights are provided daily, Monday to Saturday, by British Airways (0870 850 9850). The little plane flies over Arran, the Mull of Kintyre and the Kildalton Distilleries, before touching down right beside the beach.

For the more intrepid amongst you, let instinct be your guide and invention your mode of transport! In the past, we have welcomed a group of sedulous young men who pulled up at our little pier in a dinghy - all the way from Northern Ireland! Should you equal or even surpass such a display of dedication, you are assured of receiving a warming dram on arrival - on the house!
