The smell of white paint! Craig and Gordon, our resident painters are soaring in the beautiful clear blue skies on their cherry picker beginning the ceremonial painting of the distillery. In times gone by the walls of the distillery were painted white with a lime wash which prevented damp from getting through. By the end of 2009 about 90% of the buildings here at Ardbeg Distillery will have been painted. We will use about 600 litres of white paint to get the distillery looking magnificent! For those who have been here before you will see the back of the maltings wall on your approach to the distillery will be white and for the first time warehouse 11 will be resplendent in white! For those who have not visited us before then come and see. The buildings here on Islay are constantly ravaged by the weather so it is with a great deal of excitement that, as the snowdrops and daffodils bloom,we emerge from the long winter and tiptoe into Spring. But for now, white is the new black!
